The aim of this work is the study of adsorption of malachite green dye solution using low-cost adsorbents like watermelon rind waste. Batch adsorption studies are performed by observing the effect of experimental parameters, namely amount of adsorbents, dye concentration and time of contact. Optimum dye removal conditions are studied such as required contact time, amount of adsorbent and dye concentration. Spectrophotometric technique has been used before and after adsorption to measure the concentration of the dye. The removal data were fitted on Langmuir adsorption equations. The equilibrium time for 80 mg/L dye concentration was found to be 120 min. For an adsorbent dose of 0.3 g at 80 mg/L dye concentration, a maximum removal of 60.323 % was obtained. The results of this work can be used to determine the optimum conditions for adsorption of dye in aqueous solutions. Dyes are found in various industrial effluents such as textile industries, sewage water and water treatment plants in mixture form. This work could been used in the design of dye removal adsorption columns.en_US
