dc.description.abstract | Magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) which exhibit magnetic have been widely accepted as one of the most promising nano agents used in water purification processes. However, MNPs can easily lose their colloidal stability and tend to agglomerate. Thus, it is necessary to enhance their colloidal stability in order to maintain the desired high specific surface area. In order to enhance the colloidal stability the MNPs are coated with polymer namely Poly (styrenesulfonate), PSS. In addition, to prove the presence of the polymer in the MNPs, FTIR test was run and result obtained had proofed that the MNPs had polymer coated. Moreover, to have a stable and good functionalized MNPs, the functionalized MNPs was tested in various pH range from 2 to 12. The pH properties had influenced the functionalized MNPs in order to gain high percentage removal of methylene blue. And it was found that the best pH that fitted the functionalized MNPs was between pH 2-10. Besides that, the operational parameters were performed namely on initial dye concentration and dosage of adsorbent in order to remove the methylene blue from the wastewater. The lower the initial concentration used, the higher the percentage removal gained. As for the dosage of adsorbent, the percentage removal higher as the dosage of adsorbent used was high. The adsorption of methylene blue were fitted with Langmuir and pseudo second order kinetic model was obtained. | en_US |
