Effective strategic leadership : a boon for successful organisations
Abstract
The paper discusses the necessity for librarians and information professionals to take on the important task of strategic leadership in order to propel libraries and information organizations to greater heights. It explains the meaning of "effective strategic leadership" in library management, and how "effectiveness" can be measured. Three case studies are used as examples of effective strategic leadership. It highlights the differences between setting
objectives and SMART objectives which enable the measurement of performance outcomes. Goleman's list of competencies or emotional intelligence of strategic leaders is discussed.
