dc.description.abstract | This thesis outlines the study of an adsorption of heavy metal ions by magnetite nanoparticles. Magnetite nanoparticles were synthesized from five different concentration of ferrous sulfate heptahydrate, FeSO4.7H2O as iron precursor through reverse co-precipitation method. Then, the characteristics of synthesized magnetite were studied by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) testing. From XRD testing, it shows that magnetite nanoparticles were successfully synthesized along with the existence of goethite phase at position 2Theta=21ᴼ as an intermediate phase. For SEM morphology, spherical like shape and needle like shape were detected as magnetite and goethite phases. For the application of magnetite in adsorption of copper ions, AAS testing was used to determine the percentage adsorption of copper by calculating the residual concentration of copper left in filtrated CuSO4 solution. From AAS testing the percent adsorption of copper did not shows any different within all five samples as the concentration of magnetite increased. | en_US |
