Hybrid microwave sintering of Fe-Cr-SiC
Abstract
Silicon carbide is generally used because of their mechanical properties which are good wear, high resistance, high hardness, and durability. However, nowadays steel are hard metal and widely used in the industry. Silicon carbide is chemically stable and has high corrosion resistance, which difficult to corrode from exposure to alkali or acid. most industries, the materials used are not durable and easy to fragile. So, this study has focused on are research to determine the Fe-Cr-SiC mechanical properties such as density, porosity, hardness and compressive strength under Hybrid Microwave Sintering. The purpose of addition of silicon carbide powder is a to increase the strength. In this study, there were seven samples supplied for testing the strength and hardness when mixed with silicon powder. Silicon carbide are used as a reinforcing metal to enhance the hardness and compressive strength of material due to optimum percent of SiC in the composites. The result is tested in hardness and compressive strength to obtain the maximum stress of sample were achieved. It has been found when the sample is compared based on the yield strength, maximum stress and fracture on the graph. The sample 3 are achieved with maximum stress 569.174 % and it shows that the hardness of the sample and takes long time to fracture compared to the other samples.
