dc.description.abstract | Nowadays, the waste of energy (electrical) consumption in industries is increasing. This waste of energy consumption causes an effect on the environment. So to reduce the environment effects, the power consumption on industries need to be reduced. The objectives of this research are to investigate the effect of strength of material on the power consumption during turning process and to optimize the power consumption by controlling the cutting parameters during turning process by using Taguchi method. There are 3 materials considered in the experiment that are aluminum, carbon steel and Inconel. Shear stress that applied on a limited location on top to produce high stress intensity during cutting. Therefore, larger strength of material requires larger stress. In generally, the optimum power consumption cutting parameters for the three materials are cutting speed 30 m/min, feed rate 0.1 mm/rev and depth of cut 0.1 mm. The analysis shows that the cutting speed is the most significant factor effect the power consumption. The increase of cutting speed causes the increase of cutting force on the material and this causes the increase of power consumption. | en_US |
