This project is concerned with application of evolutionary programming (EP) to optimal reactive power dispatch and voltage control of power systems. Practical implementation of the EP for global optimization problems of large-scale power systems has been considered. The proposed EP method has been evaluated on the IEEE 30-bus system. Simulation results, compared with that obtained using a conventional gradientbased optimization method, are presented to show the potential of applications of the proposed method to power system economical operations. Losses are something that surely happened in distribution system. A distribution system cannot distribute a power to the maximum because of power losses. Therefore many kind of method has been used by engineers to reduce power losses. Reactive power dispatch is one of the method that used by engineers to reduce power losses. This project was done to make the finding of the suitable value for reactive power dispatch in distribution system easier. The project objective is to reduce losses and determine the optimal size of reactive power dispatch. Technique that used to find the optimal size is the evolutionary programming (EP). Newton- Raphson methods were used for the power flow solution. For the project test system, it is used for the 30-bus system. This project was done by using MATLAB software. The software can do much kind of work, example like mathematical calculation, image processing, system analyzing, write programmed and many more. To execute this project several thing have to learn. It is to learn how to write programmed using MATLAB software. Understand the power flow using Newton- Raphson method and studies the evolutionary programming (EP) technique.en_US
