This thesis analyzes the performance of chopper-fed separately excited DC motor by using Matlab/ Simulink®. Electrical parts of the DC drive consist of the DC source, the DC motor and the chopper. In this thesis, Buck converter is used as a chopper to drive separately excited DC motor. The DC motor is fed by the DC source through a chopper that consists of a GTO thyristor and a diode. Specification of the motor used in this project is 240V and 5Hp. In the beginning the chopper and the motor are modeled and then developed in Matlab/ Simulink® environment. Analyzes of the chopper performance is done by varying the setting of the speed controller, speed step, hysteresis and torque step. Chopper fed motor drive are divided into two conditions, continuous and discrete.en_US
