Power quality monitoring system
Abstract
In this thesis, a power quality monitoring system has been designed and
simulated. This project is used for measuring the input voltage and current and
determines the power quality based on the input voltage. Power quality is divided into
four categories which are normal event, interruption event, sag event, and swell event.
This project is using software named LabVIEWTM 2013 (short for Laboratory Virtual
Instrumentation Engineering Workbench) to design the circuit and the interface for
monitoring. . The input of this project is by measuring the input of the voltage and the
current based on the simulation. After that, the measured input voltage is taken to the
power quality calculation in order to get the quality of the voltage. The quality value is
measured in „per unit‟ (p.u.). If the input is between 0 and 0.09, the voltage is classified
as interruption. If the input is between 0.1 and 0.89, the voltage is classified as sag. If
the input is between 0.9 and 1.09, the voltage is classified as normal. If the input is
exceeding 1.1, it is classified as swell. After the power quality is determined, the LED
for each event is activated depends on which event condition is met. The value of
voltage, current, and power quality also shown at monitor display in front panel of the
LabVIEW.
