The effect of power quality problem due to unbalance load at LV distribution system
Abstract
This report proposes the effect of power quality problem due to unbalance load at
LV distribution system. This project aims to monitor, investigate and analyze the power
quality problem due to unbalance load at selected UniMAP’s building which is school of
Material Engineering. In this research, voltage, current and signal were reviewed and been analyzed to find the cause of power quality problem and some recommendation to mitigate the power quality problem by using Fluke 1750 Power Recorder. The analysis of power
quality monitoring during the project progress was concerns in few section analyses which
is power, power factor, and neutral current analysis. From the analysis, highest power factor
is 0.998 and the lowest power factor is 0.016. The high power factor is better because low
power factor can sometimes cause equipment to fail. From the analysis of neutral current,
the highest value is 37.69A at 10.00am due to unbalance load because of the high uses of
equipment. While and the lowest value of neutral current is 1.33A at 7.00pm because of all
equipments are turned off. If the system is balanced, neutral current should be less or
approximately zero. School of Material Engineering’s building had the power quality
problem due to unbalance load. To overcome it, load should be distributed back to balance
the system.
