    Abstract
The objective of this study was to investigate the removal of Basic Red 46 (BR 46) from synthetic wastewater by the adsorption onto eggshell. This experiment was carried out to investigate the effectiveness of eggshell in adsorption of dye. The operation parameters investigated included eggshell dosage, initial dye concentration and agitation speed. Experimental tests were conducted in a batch process. The experimental isotherms data were analyzed using Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. The analysis found that Langmuir isotherm model fits the data very well for BR 46 dyes on adsorbents. The calculated dimensionless separation, RL indicated that the adsorption of the BR 46 dyes onto adsorbent were favorable. Pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order kinetic equations were used to examine the experimental data of different adsorbent dosage. It was found that the pseudo-second order kinetic equation described the data of dyes adsorption on adsorbent. Surface morphology of eggshell was also examined using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The results showed that as expected, adsorption capacity of dye increased with the time. The amount of adsorption capacity of BR 46 is increased with 0.2 g of adsorbent dosage, 150 rpm of agitation speed and 10 ppm of initial dye concentration.
