The effect of Barium Oxide to the properties of natural Hidroxyapatite
Abstract
This project reports the mechanical properties and the microstructure of composite materials made of hydroxyapatite, obtained from natural cow bone, and BaO (1,2 and 5 wt.%), which were sintered at different temperatures between of 1150 and 1250°C. Higher sintering temperatures resulted in better densification and less in porosity percentage. The samples sintered at 1200 °C had the highest MOR. The best flexural strrengths (MOR) were obtained after sintering at 1200 °C for 6 hours soaking time for the samples containing 5 wt.% BaO, and also 1150 °C for the samples with 5 wt.% BaO.
