A right-handed heterogeneous geometrical-shaped hand model was introduced in this study with the size of Malaysian adult female to investigate different Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) value for different type of human hand tissues. Two hand models were used to perform the investigations using a simple candy-bar mobile phone embed with Planar Inverted-F antenna (PIFA) in the vicinity of Specific Anthropomorphic Mannequin (SAM) head phantom. The PIFA operate as dual-band antenna at GSM frequencies with 1 Watt normalized and accepted power for SAR calculations. SAR at 10gram was then calculated after obtaining e-field from the simulation. All modeling and simulations were done in CST Studio Suite 2011 on a computer workstation. Since the human fingers are based on skin, tendon and muscle wrapped around bone, comparisons have been made to observe which tissue absorbs more energy to help simplify the modeling of heterogeneous hand model. Results show comparisons of two hand models with either skin or tendon, both on finger bones with a no-hand result to highlight the significant of hand in SAR investigations. SAR in both head and hand region were taken into consideration in this work.
