This paper presents an implementation of open loop DC-DC boost converter. The operation of boost converter is considered to operate in continuous conduction mode (CCM) only. State-space averaging technique is applied to obtain the modeled equations of boost converter. The regulation of duty cycle is achieved by implementing a pulse width-modulated (PWM) technique at a fixed frequency of 100 kHz. By varying the value of load resistor, the efficiency of converter can be obtained. Modeling and simulation is initially carried out using Matlab/Simulink block diagram. An attempt has been made in this paper to model the continuous part of the converter so that it may be readily used to design Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controller to improve the performance and percentage of efficiency of boost converter.
