This paper presents the power quality monitoring and analysis of a laboratory building of University Malaysia Perlis which is situated in Kg. Wai. The monitoring includes measured voltage and current waveforms, voltage and current imbalance, power factor and total harmonic distortion (THD) of voltage and current waveforms due to the non-linear loads at laboratory building. By using Reliable Power Meter Recorder (RPM 1650) as measurement equipmet, the results were analyzed and compared with the relevant standards for evaluating the quality of power in the laboratory building. In this paper, the theoretical information about the type, source and the symptoms or effect of power quality problems are first reviewed, subsequently non-linear load and the effect of non-linear load are discussed. Finally the results of power quality monitoring are discussed in depth. Based on power quality monitoring data and the analyzed data, it is found that main power quality problem in the UniMAP building is related with the current harmonic distortion and current load unbalanced. The harmonic distortion arises from the electronic equipment available in the laboratory itself. The load available is not distributed well.
