dc.description.abstract | Energy produced by wind turbines does not produce pollutants like other sources of
energy (i.e. coal, gas, and petroleum based fuel). Wind energy may help to reduce the air
pollutions by replacing the current sources of conventional energy. As a result, emissions
especially carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide and sulfur dioxide can be reduced. Environmental
concerns including the growing global climate change has prompted a spurt of growth in
the application of small scale and large scale wind power generation applied across the
world today. The large scale wind turbines are to provide electric power to supply grid.
Small scale wind turbines are typically used in battery charging system in off and remote
grid connections to provide electric power to small load locations such as homes and
cabins. Therefore, use of control unit required for wind turbine system to ensure that the
operation of voltage in and out from the wind power source to the battery system to run
properly. The project discuss about the application of Control Unit of Wind Turbine for 12
V Battery Charger. DC power supply as a power source from the 12 V batteries. An amount
of voltage incoming from source will be monitored by the control unit. The system consists
of charge controller and 12 V Lead Acid Battery. For battery application, a function of the
charge controller is used to monitor the voltage battery in the system, to recharge them, or
dumps the power from the turbine into dummy load if the battery is fully charged. PSIM 9
is used for simulation of the circuits. | en_US |
