Design, analysis and fabrication of an autoclave for dental application
Abstract
This report briefly describes the design, analysis and fabrication of a dental autoclave. There is a necessity for understanding and identifying on concepts, principles and theories applied in an existing autoclave before any modification or new design can be
done. The literature survey and few related theories are classified and studied. These
include laws of thermodynamics, heat transfer, pressure vessel, design standard,
materials selection, safety factor, pressure regulation and automation system. New
design of autoclave is reliable, lightweight and economical to manufacture. This thesis
provides a solution to the determination of functionality such as Von Mises Stress by
utilizing mathematical solution and CATIA software package. The proposed design
satisfies the functional requirements of the new autoclave. Due to budget constraints, a
modified and reduced version of the autoclave has been fabricated. The finish
prototype is expected to have significant commercial value.
