dc.description.abstract | Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) have played an important role in the development of
Malaysian economy. Besides, it also gives opportunities to medium class to get involve in
entrepreneurs sectors and rewards better income. In Malaysia, SME are concentrated
mainly in the food and beverages sector regarding the increasing in consumer demand on
instant food and beverages product. This thesis is written to design and develop a cordial
cooling system for Syarikat Frutania Sdn. Bhd. The systems that will design is a modern
processing system and meet the industry requirement in conformity with modern hygienic
standards. However, the design proposed will concentrate on heat exchanger which is
capable to cool 600 liter of cordial from the temperature 90ºC to 30 ºC effectively and able
to reduce the processing time in order to improve productivity. The design principle will be
based on the First Law of Thermodynamics, Convection Heat Transfer, and Conduction
Heat Transfer. The heat exchanger was analyzed by using the Log Mean Temperature
Difference (LMTD) and the Effectiveness-NTU method to determine the appropriate size
and the efficiency. Besides, the design also included the consideration of industry limitation
which is space constraint. Static analysis also applied to ensure the design of heat
exchanger proposed is strong enough for fabrication purpose. | en_US |
