dc.description.abstract | Over the years, in Malaysia, there has been an increasing interest in the use of compressed earth bricks (CEB) - formed from stabilized earth - for masonry buildings. Buildings are usually designed and constructed without the concern of its impact to the environment and human comfort. Most contributes to poor thermal performance and high energy consumption. Due to its green characters and economical benefits, CEB has gained wide recognition for use in the construction of building envelope systems. A few samples of CEBs were obtained and undergone laboratory testing to investigate its individual physical and thermal insulation characteristics. Results for density, compressive strength, and water absorption testing are presented in this paper. In conjunction with the thermal insulation test, CEBs thermal conductivity values were also studied. The test results showed that physical properties of CEB are suitable for wall construction; compared to British Standard. Thermal conductivity tests showed for CEB has a value lower than common bricks. These initial findings illustrates that CEB has the potential to improve indoor comfort hence can been act as an alternative building material that is more environmental friendly. | en_US |
