This article describes the significance of addressing energy management in the context of an overall process system, i.e. the “bigger picture” in order to maximise energy savings. Towards this end, it presents Pinch Technology as an effective solution to address the core of energy efficiency problems. Results from the application of Pinch Technology for the retrofit of a palm oil refinery have been highlighted to demonstrate how some simple graphical tools and rules of Pinch Technology can be translated into practical solutions to maximise energy savings.en_US
