A new modulation scheme for a five-level cascaded multilevel inverter is proposed. Unlike other schemes, the proposed method is based on the symmetric regular sampling unipolar PWM with a single carrier and multiple modulating signals. The paper will detail the method to obtain the switching angles of this PWM scheme. This algorithm is implemented using a low-cost fixed-point microcontroller on an experimental five-level cascaded inverter test rig. The results from the test rig are compared with MATLAB simulation for verification.en_US
