A series of biocrudes and chars were prepared from agricultural by-product rice straw. Fixed bed pyrolysis experiments have been conducted on a sample of rice straw to determine the effects of pyrolysis temperature, heating rate and particle size on the pyrolysis product yields and their compositions. The maximum oil yield of 25.3% was obtained at the proper pyrolysis conditions. The chemical characterization by elemental and spectroscopic and studies showed that the pyrolysis oil derived from the pyrolysis of rice straw contain considerable amounts of carbonyl groups and/or oxygen content.en_US
