A two dimensional multi Fourier-component magnetic field is moved along a channel filled with an incompressible, electrically conducting viscous fluid at a time-dependent velocity of a sinusoidal type at finite magnetic Reynolds number. In this numerical study we are interested in the effectiveness of the resulting stirring of the liquid metal and that of the applied magnetic field which changes continuuosly as a result of the flow. It is found that a pair of vortex is generated just after the time when the applied velocity changes direction. Magnetic field lines are swept by the flow but their inclination reverses when the central flow changes direction.en_US
