Abstract: This paper present a study on designing dc motor based upon performance specification given by the customer using interactive computer software, MATLAB® programming. The project mainly focuses on performing and formulating the required MATLAB® programming, added with C++ coding. The generated programs will demonstrate the plot-curves analysis of separately excited dc motor (SEM) design. An accurate design is reflected from the curves performed, whether it meet the performance specification or otherwise. The frame designation and units are referred to international standardization, which is NEMA MG-1 Standard. Finally, the analysis part where the plotcurves of developed torque-speed, armature current-speed, armature voltage-speed, output power-speed and efficiencyspeed are successfully generated using MATLAB®. Validation test of simulated results and theory is done to verify the accuracy of the design. A 5% or less tolerance is used in error measurement which reflect a good design of SEM or otherwise.
