Abstract: | The number of discarded tyre continues to grow and indicate greater environmental issue to the worldwide. The short-term solution had been used for disposal of waste tyre which rest end up with illegal stockpiles and landfills. In term of power generation effectiveness the waste tyre had selected as alternative electrode in the microbial fuel cell (MFC). This study examine the performance of electrode in term of electricity and COD removal using traditional MFC that consisted anode and cathode compartments. The effectiveness preparation electrode were found 400°C of carbonization temperature with 1 hours of exact time which resulted good performance of electrical energy. The activated sludge from was collected from anaerobic pond use as anode inoculum. The external resistance was applied for MFC by using 100 Ω resistor. The voltage was recorded parallel by using the digital multimeter (DMM). Meanwhile, the polarization curve graph had been applied to determine the internal resistance of the MFC. The COD concentration of inoculum were measured using COD reactor which to determine the efficiency of COD removal. The maximum voltage ,current density and power density was 51 mV, 0.04250 mA/cm2 and 2.083 mW/cm2.. Meanwhile, there was 38 % of COD removal efficiency. The physical characteristics of the electrode and biofilm were investigated by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). |
