Abstract: Lignin, one of the main structural polymers present in plant tissue, represents an important participant on the complex formation and transformation of organic material in the biosphere. Lignin acts as the most abundant natural product on earth. It can be found as an isolated product of the pulp and paper industry. Palm oil mill effluent (POME) has been known as high strength industrial wastewater that is difficult to treat primarily because of its large variety of inorganic and organic contents. Palm oil mill effluent has unfavorable environmental effects including land and aquatic ecosystem contamination and loss of biodiversity and increase in chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) in the environment. The main purpose of this study is to remove lignin from anaerobically treated palm oil mill effluent (AT-POME). Therefore, the optimum parameters for the different type of acid,pH and reaction time was determines for maximum removal of tannin-lignin. The Result of the experiment have shown that optimum parameter for the precipitate result lignin removal was 65.25 %. An experiment was conducted in order to determine when the predicted result is equal. For optimum condition at 5 minutes reaction time, pH 5 by using acid H2S04 the predicted result of lignin removal was suggested 74.67 %. From this experiment, also found out that acid tannin – lignin of AT-POME was sufficient to remove in the acid solution.
