Abstract: | A modern society requires large amount of energy and power production. Most of this energy is produced in power production industries, which need a cooling system to run efficient process. Due to the constant rising of power demand, more industries have been developed to fulfil the requirement. However, power production industries can harm the environment in various ways. Power plants commonly use fresh and sea water as cooling substance and withdraw billions of gallons per year. Both fresh and sea water resources are already under pressure of environmental damages. The discharged water from the power production industries without being controlled the discharge temperature can cause pollution to water body. Moreover, the over consumption of power by manufacturing industries can lead dramatically to climate change. Malaysia has become a developing and industrialised country in recent decades. Due to the significant growth of industries, integrated planning between energy and water sector is essential in order to meet rising demands for both energy and water resources. This study is carried out to fulfil this requirement as a basic study on cooling water used by power production industries currently or in future. |
