Geotextile play an important role in construction at present. In this research case study, nonwoven geotextile material used to determine the effective use of geotextiles in the landfills that acts as a filter. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of geotextiles for landfill areas that considered nonwoven geotextile as filter media and identify the quality of filtered water in landfills. Therefore, two models are designed to show the filtering process. Two models are created, where one model that uses a type of nonwoven geotextiles and the other does not used the geotextile. Tank size 350 mm x 200 mm x 240 mm was used to place materials such as nonwoven geotextiles, sand, and aggregate to form three layers in the model. Based on Manual Waste landfill design, minimum thickness of soil and aggregates is 7 cm and each layer is compacted by downsizing scale. However, the actual thickness is not used because the purpose of this model was constructed only to show the filtering process that happens and the function of nonwoven geotextiles for this study. Only one parameter was used that was sample of landfill leachate . After the test was done, the results of leachate samples was tested for biochemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, water turbidity, suspended solids contained in the water, and color. From the results obtained, 80% of the application of nonwoven geotextiles in landfills had a positive effect in reducing air pollution levels and able to reduce the pollution of underground ecosystem.en_US
