Abstract: This project is focusing on the effect of anodizing on the coating Mg alloys. The Mg alloy was cut with constant length and width. The AZ80 is the type of Mg alloy used. It has high strength but also have high corrosion rate. The anodizing was used to coat the samples. The anodizing process was carried out using three different parameters which are voltage (10V, 30V, 50V) , time for anodizing (30 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes) and the concentration of Na2SiO3 (0.3M, 0.4M, 0.5M). Sample non-anodized and anodized were analyzed using a few analysis which are Corrosion rate test (polarized), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). The anodizing process also was carried out used Taguchi method. From overall testing, sample that has minimum corrosion rate which anodized with 30V for 90 minutes with concentration of solution 0.5M. From this study, it is found that different anodizing parameters affected the corrosion rate of the samples.
