In this thesis writing, aluminium undergoes nitriding at three different temperatures which is 600°C, 625°C and 650°C. The surface also have been grind and polish with 800, 320 grinder paper and the other variable is rough surface. The experiment was car-ried out at 4 hours and 12 hours to compare the amount of nitrogen diffuse into the sur-face when the time is increase. To see the difference amount of nitrogen diffuse into the surface, the sample was weight before and after the nitriding. The weight percentage was calculated and compare with all the samples. From the calculated weight percent-age in which the lowest value is 0.2738% from rough surface while the highest percent-age is 800 surface for temperature 650°C which is 0.9562%, the higher the temperature the more the nitrogen diffuse into the surface. While the finest the surface, the more the amount of aluminium nitride form from the X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) testing that have been done. The 320 surface with temperature 650°C at 4 hour also show no formation of aluminium nitride in XRD result due to the improper sample preparation which caus-es the formation of oxide that prevent the aluminium nitride to form. The time also in-fluence the amount of aluminium nitride will form. The microstructure of the alumini-um nitride surface also have been observe and compare with all the samples. After the sample have been nitride, the hardness test have been conduct to test the hardness of the surface before and after the nitriding to prove that the properties of aluminium have in-crease after the nitriding. From the hardness test the properties of aluminium is increase after nitriding. The melting point of aluminium is 660°C are also increase to 1800°C after nitriding.en_US
