Abstract: An experimental study the behavior of woven fiber/epoxy composite laminated plates under quasi-static compression is presented. Three types of fiber are used (glassfiber 600, carbon-fiber 400 and hybrid glass 600 + carbon 400) to fabricate the laminated plates with four stacking sequences respectively. The aim of this study is to determine the effects of fiber orientation and fiber type to the laminates when subjecting compressive load. Compression test has been performed on to these plates using INSTRON machine. Mechanical properties such as ultimate load, specific strength and energy absorption has been obtained experimentally. Results show that cross-ply laminates possess the highest ultimate strength as compared to other types pf ply stacking sequences laminates. 0º ply laminate has the direct influence to the ultimate load. Also, it has been observed that fiber type, fiber weight, fiber density, thickness of plate are the another factors governing the mechanical properties of laminates. Hybrid effects have been studied with the combination of carbon fiber and glass fiber characteristics.
