Abstract: Fused deposition modelling (FDM) is a fast growing rapid prototyping (RP) technology due to its ability to build functional parts having complex geometrical shape in reasonable time period. The quality of built parts depends on many process variables. In this study, three important process parameters such as layer thickness, orientation, and infill are considered. Their influence on two responses such as tensile and flexural strength of test specimen is studied. Experiments are conducted based on Taguchi method in order to reduce experimental runs. Empirical models relating response and process parameters are developed. The validity of the models is tested using analysis of variance (ANOVA). The major reason for weak strength may be attributed to distortion within or between the layers. Finally, concept of desirability function is used for maximizing all responses simultaneously. It was found out that the use of layer thickness 0.25 mm, orientation of 0 degree, and infill of 100% are suggested in order to find the good strength for three dimensional printing (3D printing) fused deposition modeling (FDM). Based on the result, it shows that the infill is the most significant factors that affect the strength of the three dimensional printing (3D printing) fused deposition modeling (FDM) process followed by orientation and the layer thickness.
