Abstract: Analogue Broadcast Transmitters are being replaced by Digital Transmitters based on standards using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM). However, high Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) is limiting the performance of digital transmitters and several techniques have been proposed to mitigate it including amplitude clipping, coding, multiple signal representation techniques, selected mapping or partial transmit sequences. As a general rule, these techniques achieve PAPR reduction at the expense of an increase in transmitted signal power, an increase in BER, a higher loss in data rate, or an increase in computational complexity. Therefore, an alternative technique using Guided Scrambling is presented here.
