Concrete has its adaptability in its usage and play as an essential role in the field of construction. Steel slag gained from industry of steel manufacturing as by product. The use of these by-product to replace the portion of the cement, minimize waste materials and enhance mechanical properties of concrete production. A few testing and characterization been performed to determine mechanical properties of steel slag concrete which are slump test, density test, water absorption test and compressive strength test. Xray fluorescence is a characterization method used in this project. Through this way, identification of element that contribute to the properties of concrete can be recognize. The results exhibit that the addition of steel slag give variation output for the mechanica l properties of concrete. X-ray fluorescence result show that calcium has the highest concentration which is 70.88%, follow by silicon 14.5% and aluminum 5.53%. Through all the result, mostly 20 % of steel slag enhanced the mechanical properties of concrete. The good workability of concrete is at 20 % of steel slag which 60 mm and it is the highest value for slump test which determine workability of concrete. Compressive strength for concrete at 7 days and 28 days at 20 % steel slag are the highest. Compressive strength test is done to determine concrete hardness and strength when load is applied. The density result show the highest also at 20 % of steel slag. Density test is done to determine compactness of concrete when other additional material is added. Then, for water absorption test of concrete also highest at 20 % amount of steel slag used. Water absorption test is done to identify existence of porosity so that water content in concrete is sufficient.en_US
