Abstract: In this research, bamboo was used as ac for Cu (II) removal. Original and adsorbed bamboo was characterized by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrum (FTIR). The concentration of copper ions was measured by Atomic Adsorption Spectrophtometer (AAS). The capacity of copper ion removal was studies by altering different parameter including initial metal ions concentration, wastewater pH, adsorbent dosage, and contact time in batch adsorption experiment. It was found that the optimum pH for biosorption of copper on the bamboo biomass was on pH 5. The adsorption capacity is increased at pH 3 to pH 5 and then decreased at pH 6. Furthermore, in this research the adsorption efficiency of the bamboo biomass was rapid given that 90% of the copper ions were removed within the initial 5 minutes. The adsorption capacity is increasing from 5 to 20 minutes and then continues decreasing until 240 minutes. Highest adsorption capacity was observed at 20 minutes. Moreover, the capacity of adsorption in effect of adsorbent dosage on copper removal was increased until 1.5 grams, further increment of adsorbent above 1.5 grams resulted in a decline in adsorption capacity. In addition, it was observed that the uptake capacity decreased with the increased in initial metal concentration.
