Abstract: The study was conducted with the aim of assessing the water sources quality and pollution that occurs as a result of various land use activities along the river corridor. It is important to know because the reaction with chlorine pollutants can have a direct impact on treated water supplied to consumers. As part of this pollution can be controlled or minimized and then, the results can be used to help agencies address the problem accurately and efficiently. The study focused on identifying the components of pollutants that cause degradation of water sources and their causes along the “Terusan Utara” starting from Pelubang, Jitra to the Water Treatment Plant Phase IV Arau, Perlis. For this purpose, a number of physical and chemical parameters of water were taken, tested and recorded as temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity and total suspended solids. For chemical analysis, among the components involved are ammonia, nitrate, phosphorus, manganese, and iron. For determination water sources quality, two main procedures need to be considered which are in-situ (conduct directly in the field) and ex-situ (experiment is conducted at laboratory using standard lab procedure). In addition, chlorine demand analysis was also conducted to evaluate the effects of pollutants on the reaction of chlorine during water treatment carried out. From the data collected, the water sources quality can be determined and on average it’s give an effect on the chlorine demand in water treatment plant.
