Abstract: The use of austenitic series steel with either Cadmium and/or Zinc coating is becoming increasingly important in Spring, Lock Washer, Fastener, Tools, Military Hardware, Washing Machine Parts, Electronic and Electrical Parts, etc. due to galvanic behavior to steel in most of environment, do differ in many of their properties. These difference should be considered in selecting one for a given application. The investigations are presented for the high temperature oxidation behaviors of AISI- 304 & AISI-316 steels under influence of the molten cadmium sulfate viz CdSO4, oxidized at 1123 K for the period of 120 h at atmospheric condition. The oxidation kinetic and effect of molten CdSO4 deposition on the oxidation rate were determined. The susceptibility to suffer a deleterious attack on the alloy by internal oxidation increases with increasing the time. In order to check whether the growth kinetics of Cr2O3 formed by the oxidation of austenitic steels were controlled by oxygen and/or cadmium diffusion through the oxide film. The microstructures and chemical analysis of the oxide/sulfide films grown by oxidation were performed by scanning electron microscopic (SEM) as well as energy dispersive X-ray ( EDX) techniques.
