Abstract: One of the key features of GMPLS signaling functionalities in wavelength-routed networks is lightpath provisioning control mechanism. It is required to establish, maintain, modify and terminate LSPs or data paths between nodes. The mechanism must be capable in assigning the reserved lightpath allocation, routing and re-configure the optical cross-connect (OXC). Based on those principles, three main protocols is implemented in GMPLS. Those principles are Resources Reservation Protocol with Traffic Engineering (RSVP-TE), Open Shortest Path First with Traffic Engineering (OSPF-TE), and Link Management Protocol (LMP). Nevertheless, when the operation is deployed to wavelength routed networks with wavelength continuity constraint, it present crucial deficiency. Network performances deteriorates. Therefore, the key aspect for this project is to analyze and distinguish the possibilities lightpath establishment in optical networks by using typical core network. The simulation framework used to establish the topology is OMNet++ simulator tools. The data is then collected and tabulated into graphs. The analysis of the topology from a typical core network is described based on the graphs generated.
