Abstract: Nowadays, most of medical practitioners’ have difficulty to destroy the hypodermic needles stick. Usually, they just break or bend it by using the hand or needle cap which exposes them to inadvertent needle pricks. Other than that, they also throw the needle into dustbin without destroy it. This will expose to the chances of stealing and wrong doing by other person. The project objective is to improve the safety and performance aspects in hypodermic needle safety apparatus. It has two methods that applied during this project which are Flow chart and Gantt chart. The flow chart is used to brief the outline of activities from week 1 to week 8 when the project ends. However the Gantt chart is a more detail and organizes to monitor and to meet up with deadlines. A collection of theories, concepts or ideas are includes in the explanation of methodology. For results, it come out from a few of analysis which are questionnaire analysis, concept selection process, structure design analysis (calculation and CATIA analysis), failure mode and effect analysis(FMEA), finite element analysis (FEA), tolerance analysis, and material cost analysis. From questionnaire result and analysis, the criteria to design the new concept of hypodermic needle safety apparatus have been got which are low cost, safe to use, easy to handle and durability of product. For concept selection, the concept 1 was chosen. For material cost analysis, the overall cost is RM7.28. The real material cost practically lower then this assumption because the material price cheaper when purchasing in large quantity rather than small quantity. The detail of other analysis result was discussed in a chapter 7. Lastly, for further development of hypodermic needle safety apparatus, the design of a Hypodermic needle destroyer should attach with the needle dustbin which is the user can directly destroy and throw it without use many steps.
