Abstract: The basic concept for structural analysis is transfer the service loading to the support that nearby. Axial load are transfer from building structure to the column and at the end transfer to foundation. Base on this study, the main purpose is to analyze the axial loadings that transmit to column by using tributary area method and compare with the analysis using finite element method. Tributary area method will be carry out by using manual calculation, where finite element method will be carry out by using computer software SAFE version 8. When increase in slab thickness, axial load will distribute evenly into column support. Load distribution on interior support will reduced and increase in exterior support. The result shown the error percentage existed between tributary area method and finite element method. Thus, tributary area method is not a suitable method to find the axial loads on columns.
