Abstract: The actual bussiness contractor depends upon the number of projects in hand. But for contractors looking for a project, the contractor will have to compete along with registered contractors. The objective of this study is to study the tendering and estimating process in the contractors company, to identify the factor that influence the contractor’s profit margin and to examine the tendering strategy by the contractor to successfully win the bid. The study involved G7 companies registered with the CIDB around Perlis, Kedah and Penang. The analysis was performed with questionnaires and interviews. The results were analyzed using the Average Index. The main factors that will affect the profit margins of the contractors are availability of qualified staff. Major tender strategy for contractors to win bids is to develop a reputation for safety, quality and speed of construction. The conclusion for this study is all three objective was achieved for total of 50 questionnaires were distributed and 40 returned completely. For the recommendation, proposed that further study could be conducted with other states or whole Malaysia in order that it can add more significantly on the contractors' business in Malaysia and to expand to all grades contractors to formulate a detailed strategy.
