Abstract: In Malaysia, the usage of timber structure in construction is still low. Generally, the use of timber mainly focuses on structure that can take small loads. Tensile strength is one of the material’s mechanic properties that very important to determine the ability of a structure to take pulling loads and can be influenced by several factors including moisture content. This study is to analyse and determine the tensile strength of timber at different percentages of moisture content. Sample of timber used in this study was Cengal timber. Oven-dry method has been used to determine the parameter of moisture content. Data obtained were used to analyse the relationship between moisture content and tensile strength. Lastly, the applicable of Cengal timber as a construction material in various environment conditions has been discussed based on the results data obtained.
