dc.description | The 6th International Engineering Invention & Innovation Exhibition 2015 (i-ENVEX 2015) was organized by ENVEX Young Researcher Club (EYReC), University Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) and Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), Malaysia on 17th - 19th April 2015, at UniMAP Main Campus, Pauh Putra, Perlis. | en_US |
dc.description.abstract | Nowadays, disposal problem is one of the main disadvantages of using mulch film and polybag in agricultural industry. In 2014, about 143,000 tons of plactics mulch were disposed, either in the landfill or burned on site. Although biodegradable plactic film exist, non-biodegradable plastic films are more commonly used as it is cost effective. The disposal of agricultural mulch film and polybag must be done in a proper way. Consequently, they are sent to processed or recycled plant that specializes in disposing of this specific type of polyethylene film. The mulch and polybag can last up to hundred years. The current available biodegradable mulch is more expensive and nor easily degradable. Degradable plactic systems are typically undergoing changes in chemical structure as a results of oxidation in air, causing the distruption of the molecules into small fragment. Moreover, the presence of metal oxides as pro-oxidant (cobalt stearate) are harmful to the environment and human health. | en_US |
