The structure defects and finishing of school building in Perlis

Abstract

Structural and finishing defect is a common problem that occurs in the construction industry. The structural defect can occur in buildings and other parts of structure. These are difficult to track and known the cause of defect. Besides, if this condition is left unanswered and untreated, it will lead to more serious problems in future. The structural defects such as crack, sediment and leaking can cause the structure loss its integrity, failure and short life span. Finishing is the works to improve the service and decorative qualities of building and its function to protect structural members from atmospheric and other effects. The aim of this study is to investigate the types of structure defects and finishing of school building, to analyze the factors that contributed to the school building defects and the last one is to evaluate the level of satisfaction level for the repair work of defects performed by contractor. The data is collected from questionnaire from various primary schools in Perlis and transform to the statically data by using frequency analysis and average index. The survey is done at 30 primary schools around Perlis. This study is achieved the objectives. Hopefully, this study will improve the effectiveness of managing the structural and finishing defects that occur in school building. Furthermore, it will help the school parties to detect the defects that occur at their schools and voice out their problems according to the defects.
