Abstract: Effect of coupling agent of ethylene diamine -co- and acrylic acid (EDAA) on properties of waste tyre dust ( WTD ) filled acrylonitrile butadiene stryene has been investigated. The investigation are including on the tensile properties, mechanical properties and swelling behavior by using toulene. Incorporation of filler into polymer matrices leads to a significant improvement in the physical and mechanical properties of the polymer. Waste tyre dust and treated waste tyre dust loading for 5, 15, 20, and 25 per hundread resin were prepared as filler for this purpose. Treated waste tyre dust were prepared by mixed the coupling agent which is ethylene diamine and acrylic acid together with 1 : 2 ratio and ethanol as soften using wise stir for 1 hour. The samples were mixed in a Z-blade mixer at 190oC using 50 rpm motor speed and been compressed using a hydraulic press at the same temperature. The effects then investigated by using tensile test, scanning electron microscopy ( SEM ), fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and swelling index behavior. Used EDAA in the ABS/WTD composites blends indicates significant improvement in mechanical properties. The ABS/WTD composites blends with EDAA has higher tensile strength, modulus of elasticity and low elongation at break of all compositions. The swelling index of composites blends with EDAA was lower than that of composites blends without EDAA. Scanning electron microscopy of the fractured surface proved EDAA promoted good adhesion between the ABS matrix and WTD. FTIR result indicate that ASB/WTD composites with EDAA has fuctional group that promote strong bonding between WTD and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene phase.
