Abstract: The effect of Sr on the Mg sacrificial anode performance in the corrosion protection was investigated by planned interval immersion and current efficiency test. XRD analysis was used to determine the presence of MgI7Sr2 compound. The results indicate, the addition of Sr content to nearly 0.11 wt. % results in the more electronegative of OCP (-1.66V vs SCE), higher current efficiency (58%) and low corrosion rate. In contrast, the higher corrosion rate was recorded as Sr content was more than 0.11wt%. The XRD results clearly exhibits the presence of MgI7Sr2 phase on Mg-0.24Sr. Thus, the detrimental effect of Mg anodewas due to local galvanic effect that results in the dropping of current efficiency percentage and positively shiftedof the OCP.
