The 2nd International Malaysia-Ireland Joint Symposium on Engineering, Science and Business 2012 (IMiEJS2012) jointly organized by Universiti Malaysia Perlis and Athlone Institute of Technology in collaboration with The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) Malaysia, Education Malaysia and Malaysia Postgraduates Student Association Ireland (MyPSI), 18th - 19th June 2012 at Putra World Trade Center (PWTC), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.en_US
The electrical transmission lines play a vital role in the operation of electric power system. Therefore, the objective of this research is to investigate and study the behavior of steel transmission towers under wind load from horizontal direction under static analysis. Thus, it is carried out to investigate the feasibility of the steel telecommunication towers’ structures in providing lateral stiffness to the structural frame of the tower at three different heights. It is learned that the maximum deflection is significant and should be considered in the design and analyses of tower structures. Research results of the three towers at different height will be described and compared with respective deflections on the whole. The author found that the wind loading effect in static analysis shows 50% greater in the direction of short width of cross arm if compare to longer width.en_US
