Abstract: In mobile communication, a principle problem with the propagation environment is the rapid variation in received signal strength as the communicating parties move. Such rapid variation in received signal strength is termed as fading. The RF signals transmitted through wireless channels will suffer from several effects like small scale fading, signal dispersion and distortion. This paper reviews these effects and simulates Rayleigh and Rician multipath fading channels. The fluctuation of RF signal, average received signal level, outage probability and the Doppler shift effects are simulated and a detailed analysis is present. The simulation work has been done using Matlab and C language.
