Abstract: The efficient operation of power transformer cores depends to a large extent on the design of the joints between their limbs and yokes. Transformer are widely used in many sector such as industrial sector and commercial building. Modern transformer design typically exceed 95% efficiency. The function of transformer is act as a passive device which transforms voltage from one level to another, usually from a higher voltage to lower voltage by applying the principle of magnetic induction between coils to convert voltage current levels. Transformer normally consists of a ferromagnetic core and two or more coils called “windings”. A changing current in the primary winding creates an alternating magnetic field in the core. In turn, the core multiplies this field and couples the most of the flux through the secondary coils. Unfortunate when transformers transfer power, they do so with a minimum of loss which is combination of the power dissipated by the core’s magnetizing inductance (Iron loss) and the winding’s impedance (Copper loss). Therefore the conclusion for this project is to investigation the effect of flux density on three phase 100KVA transformer core using M4 3% silicon iron material assembled with 60º T-joint and mitred lap corner joint with stagger yoke. The measurement involves the variation of flux at corner joint and T-joint. The flux density distribution have been measured using no load test by arrays of search coil in M4 (CGRO) grade material of transformer core laminations. This project describes the result from research at corner joint and T-joint using different experiment, normal test and in-plane test.
