Abstract: PID (Proportional – Integral – Derivative) provides an efficient solution in many real-world control system problems. The main purpose of this final year project is to provide a general overview of the PID controller. This project studies the effect of PID controller on the closed loop system in selected case studies. The selected case studies are truck pulling a trailer system, an automobile suspension system and field-controlled direct current (DC) motor system. These case studies are analyzed in mathematical modeling then are used to investigate PID controller by using direct synthesis method. All case studies are developed in MATLAB Simulink software. The analysis of stability for output response for open loop system, closed loop system and closed loop system with PID controller are done on each selected case studies. The analysis includes seeing the effectiveness PID controller on the system. At the end of this project, the effectiveness of PID Controller to each system is studied and the results validate that the PID Controller is one of the most essential feedback controller in industrial process control.
